The Application Process

  1. Complete the Online Application & Payment Process.  Make sure you read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of Booking.
  2. Send a scan of your passport or EU ID card by email to info@gse-edinburgh.com
  3. Before a booking can be confirmed we require applicants to complete our Online Placement Test. The instructions on How to login to the Placement Test can be found at our Pre-Arrival Information page. We require this test to be completed so that we can place you in the correct class level when you arrive at the School.
  4. If you wish to apply for a General Student Visa (GSV) please send a copy of a UKVI approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). Details of the approved tests can be found at the following link;  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-applying-for-uk-visa-approved-english-language-tests
  5. GSV applicants must also complete a Student Assessment Questionnaire so that we can properly understand your background and future study plans prior to issuing a GSV. This can be found at  Do I Need a Visa to Study? page.
  6. If you have a recent approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) this will be used as proof of your English language level and means you will not require to complete our Online Placement test.
  7. Short Term Student Visa applicants from any of the countries listed on the PDF at the bottom of this page must also send us a completed Student Assessment Questionnaire.
  8. Pay the appropriate course deposit.
  • If you require a General Student Visa, pay a £400 deposit plus a £25 CAS fee (payable to UKVI). If you are from one of the countries listed on the PDF at the bottom of this page you will need to pay a deposit of the full gross course fees plus the £25 CAS fee.
  • If you require a Short Term Student Visa, pay a £150 deposit.  If you are from one of the countries listed on the PDF at the bottom of this page you will need to pay a deposit of the full gross course fee.
  • All other students (EU & EEA) pay a £150 deposit
  • If your course fee is less than the relevant deposit, pay the full fee.

       9.  Pay the appropriate accommodation deposit if required

  • Pay the accommodation deposit of £150. If you are from one of the countries listed on the PDF at the bottom of this page the accommodation deposit is the full cost of the accommodation, where the period booked is 3 weeks or less. For bookings of longer than 3 weeks the deposit is 50% of the cost of the accommodation or the total cost of 3 weeks accommodation, whichever is the higher.
  • Pay the accommodation booking fee of £35. This is non-refundable.
  • If your accommodation fee is less than the deposit, pay the full fee.
  • If you book a full time course of 12 or more weeks, the accommodation booking is FREE. A full time course is one of 15 hours or more per week.

      10. Pay the airport transfer fee if required.

  •   £45 from Edinburgh International one way; £90 return
  •   £120 from Glasgow International one way; £240 return
  •   £140 from Glasgow Prestwick one way; £280 return
  • If you book a full time course of 12 or more weeks, the airport transfer is discounted by £45

      11. Pay the course materials cost

This is currently the same figure for all courses and is £25 per level studied.  This is  payable at the time of booking for all new students.  For continuing students this fee should be paid directly to the school office when the student moves level.

       12. If you have a credit card, you can pay the deposit/fees at the end of the Online       Application & Payment Process which includes a secure payment section called Worldpay

        13. If you do not have a credit card, please complete the Online Application form and    arrange your payment by bank transfer. The bank details can be found on the PDF at the bottom of this page. Please email us after you have made the bank transfer.

        14. After receiving your application and payment the school will contact you within 24 hours.  After receiving all the required information & fees we will send you a Confirmation of Booking (including your CAS number if required)

        15. If your requested course or accommodation is not available we will suggest new dates for your course and/or accommodation.  If we cannot find a suitable alternative, the school will return any money you have paid.

       16. Students who are funded by an overseas government must follow all the steps above.  We require a financial guarantee letter from your sponsor addressed to the school.  You must pay the course fees yourself until we receive this letter.  After we receive this letter we will return all the fees you have paid that are covered by the financial guarantee letter – this usually excludes accommodation, airport transfer and teaching materials.

       17. Booking cancellations and refunds.

If you have to cancel your course either because your visa application has been rejected or for     any other reason then the cancellation fees listed in the tables below will apply. For visa applicants a visa rejection letter must be provided before the return of any deposit (less the appropriate cancellation fee).
